LincolnAbraham Lincoln was our president during the Civil War. He was important during the war because he was in charge of the Union. The south didn't like him because of the three things he stood against slavery, state rights, and war. He only went to war because it was the only way to save the Union. Also, Lincoln was the only president so far to take a stand against slavery with the Emancipation Proclomation. President Lincoln was elected for two terms which really killed the south. When he was shot and killed at Ford's Theater by a southerner John Wilkes Booth the south rejoiced."A friend is one who has the same enemies as you have."
-Abraham Lincoln | GrantUlyssess S. Grant was the Union general appointed by Lincoln. Grant was a failure at almost everything in life. He even came to be known as one of the worst presidents in history. The only things he was good at was his marriage and war. He was an amazing tactitioner. He also had a good battle record such as Fort Henry (TN) and Vicksburg (MS) which were both in the west.“Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station, deserves respect. We must each respect others even as we respect ourselves.” -Ulysses S. Grant

Davis Jefferson Davis was the pushover president of Confederate States of America. Davis was only chosen for two reasons to govern this new nation. One he had moderate views, and two he was a PUSHOVER which let the states call the shots. During the Civil War he appointed great generals for the army, but argued with them constantly. Also, when the south lost he ran like a coward. He was later caught and tried for treason in1866."I worked night and day for twelve years to prevent the war, but I could not. The North was mad and blind, would not let us govern ourselves, and so the war came."
-Jefferson Davis | LeeRobert E. Lee was the general of the Confederate army. He was originally offered the Union position as general by Lincoln, but he turned it down because of his loyalty to Virginia. What was so different about him was his views were the exact opposite of those of the south. He didn't agree with slavery or secession. The only thing tying him to the south was his home state. His turning point was at the Battle of Gettysburg where he lost and had to surrender his army to the north in 1865. Unlike Davis, Lee wasn't charged with treason because Grant didn't think that he deserved it."Get correct views of life, and learn to see the world in its true light. It will enable you to live pleasantly, to do good, and, when summoned away, to leave without regret."
-Robert E. Lee |
